PRESSURE TREATED TIMBERS
To withstand the elements, wood is chemically protected through a process called pressure treating, which wards off insects, microorganisms and fungal decay.  Pressure treated lumber can last 20 years or more.
Pressure-treated lumber (PT), usually pine or fir, is infused with chemicals that make it rot- and insect-resistant. The chemicals also give the wood a colored cast, which you can hide with stain or paint. You can leave it untreated to let it weather to a dark gray. Pressure-treated lumber is the least expensive of your lumber choices... Southern yellow pine is a good PT choice. It’s strong, hard, and usually not marred with incisions used in the treatment process of other woods
